What is a sourdough starter and what are its benefits.

With a lot of the population having a bit more time on there hands it maybe a great time to learn a new skill or start working with sourdough for all its amazing benefits. 


What is a sourdough starter?

Sourdough bread is made by the fermentation of dough using naturally occurring lactobacilli and yeast. Sourdough bread has a more sour taste and better inherent keeping qualities than breads made with baker's yeast, due to the lactic acid produced by the lactobacilli.) 


One of the most amazing things for me about Sourdough bread is it helped me heal my gut. Its also one of the few bread i can eat without having an upset gut a few hours later. 


This is all because if the fermentation process breaking down those grains and making it easy for our body to digest them. It also keep your bread fresher longer as well. I once had a sourdough bread that sat out and did not show visible signs of mold till 6 months later and was still fresh the whole time.
